BryanLGH is one of a select few hospitals in Nebraska utilizing a new technology that can help diagnose bone cancer, early and definitively. Definitively is important because sometimes people who have had other forms of cancer such as breast or prostrate, experience aches and pains and wonder to themselves….has my cancer spread to my bones? Until now, a nuclear medicine bone scan could only identify some type of activity in the bone, but it could not give a definitive diagnosis. For example, it could be arthritis, or it could be cancer. New technology allows us to diagnose disease processes in an earlier, more treatable stage.
What is the technology? A new radiotracer injected into the patient along with utilization of a PET/CT scanner enables doctors to obtain a specific diagnosis, thus, providing the patient with appropriate treatment as quickly as possible.
