Many patients were taking time from their work to come into the office, so eliminating one extra appointment was appreciated. Since most referring physicians have adequate experience to recognize the scope of procedures that Dr. Bryant can perform in his office with local anesthesia, it became unnecessary to have the patient come in for an initial consultation, only to have to return another day to have the procedure performed.
This process has been so successful that Bryant Cosmetic Surgery now offers it to all patients for minor skin procedures. Some of the more common procedures are treatment of skin cancers or removal of moles. This practice even includes frozen section removal of basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. In the rare circumstance that the procedure warrants general anesthesia, at the hospital, this will be recognized at the appointment, and the procedure will simply be rescheduled at another time at the hospital.
The benefits are good for both Dr. Bryant and the patient. The office is able to more efficiently schedule patient appointments. The patient avoids having to take time for an extra appointment, and the charge for an initial appointment. With current high deductible policies, the out-of-pocket savings are appreciated. Out-of-town patients particularly appreciate the reduced number of trips. Often, the follow-up visit for suture removal can be preformed by their local physician.
